The Human Intelligence Revolution Is Here - And Our Schools Aren't Ready

The Human Intelligence Revolution: A Wake-Up Call for Education

Let's be brutally honest - our education system is failing our students and putting their future at risk. Artificial Intelligence is upending the workforce, and the highest-demand jobs are based on something other than memorizing facts and procedures that AI can automate. Tomorrow's jobs require uniquely human strengths like creativity, critical thinking, emotional intelligence, and the ability to innovate and be adaptable.

The Industrial-Age Model: Outdated and Ineffective

Our schools, still operating under an outdated, industrial-age model, are churning out students like products from an assembly line. This approach is ill-equipped to cultivate the vital human skills that will allow graduates to complement AI technologies rather than be replaced by them.

The Crisis of Career Readiness in the AI Era

It's a crisis for the future of work, and the Human Intelligence Movement is sounding the wake-up call. We're leading a groundswell to drive the reinvention of the educational experience and redefine what "career readiness" means in our AI era.

Human Intelligence Movement: Driving Educational Transformation

At the Human Intelligence Movement, we're not just making minor curriculum updates. We're demanding a seismic paradigm shift in approaching learning, teaching, and measuring human potential. It's time to dismantle the limitations of simplistic grading scales and standardized tests in favor of prioritizing measures of the complex cognitive, social, and emotional human capabilities.

We're putting our stake in the ground. Our mission is to transform education systems, from preschools through universities and workforce training programs, to place Human Intelligence skill-building at the center of the experience.

Building a Movement

To get there, we're building a movement of students, educators, policymakers, businesses, and thought leaders united behind one goal: reimagining education to ensure all students have the skills to thrive and succeed in an AI world. We're driving public awareness of the urgent need for change. We're pushing policy reforms to modernize learning standards and free school systems from traditional accountability measures. We're creating collaborative spaces to solve wicked problems that come with reinventing learning and assessment to prioritize Human Intelligence.

The Human Intelligence Movement isn't just having polite debates. We're here for transformation and educational reform. We're done falling behind a reality that's rapidly leaving our students unprepared. From day one, the human skills to thrive alongside AI must become the highest priority across our education system.

We're mobilizing a movement to make that mission a reality before it's too late.

The Choice Is Yours: Stuck in the Past or Boldly Reimagining Education?

Which path will you choose for the students who will inherit our future AI world and the educators, leaders, and employers shaping it? Will you remain stuck in an obsolete past? Or will you join us to boldly reinvent learning and redefine what it means to be a human in the age of artificial intelligence? The future of humanity is calling, and the Human Intelligence Movement is leading the way.

So many of my students are anxious about AI and very resistant to the concept of using it. They see it as one more barrier for their futures. It's taking a lot of modelling to help them see the benefits and get them ready for the work world they're joining.

I completely agree with Kyle Shannon in his last 2 articles. We all need to become agile and be willing to adapt a an uncomfortable fast pace. The need for a shift in our approach is key I believe that this change means that to evolve and thrive, we must be willing to adapt. In this new AI era, sharing resources is crucial. I strongly believe that as humans, our resilience and success will increase if we embrace a culture of sharing and collaboration. By moving away from a mindset focused solely on individual gains and towards one that prioritizes communal well-being, we can ensure that everyone has the opportunity to lead a fulfilling life. However, achieving this vision requires us to fundamentally rethink our attitudes and actions. I have some valuable resources from the MIT AI for Digital Transformation class that I believe would be beneficial to share in this and other spaces like the Ai Salon.

I sometimes read the word “revolution” and it seems soooo overwhelming! But then I try to chunk it down and reflect upon every little change we can introduce in the educational system that can have a great impact and all that anxiety starts vanishing. I believe that through disruption and meaningful purposeful innovation we will certainly come up with extraordinary changes out of the ordinary. It’s up to us - responsible committed members of the educational community that education can be reset, transformed and its real meaning will flourish. I feel proud to be a part of this amazing movement which will certainly have a positive and long lasting impact on people’s future lives.

I taught Maths and Physics in high school back in the early 2000s, and I am appalled to see my teen son learning with notebooks, pens, and the same old methodologies I found boring 25 years ago. I'm currently reinventing myself in the Instructional Design field and I'm bursting with ideas for leveraging all the amazing technology we have now - including AI - to teach teens and adults. Count me in! This revolution is long overdue.
