I am #AuditorProud

I am #AuditorProud

I love the audit profession. When the Center for Audit Quality announced September 22nd as #AuditorProud day, I couldn’t wait to tell you why I chose to do the job that I do. For me, the overwhelming reason was people.

I have had the privilege of working with partners who served as mentors and sponsors at the most critical moments in my career here. They gave me confidence when I needed it, the space to be original and thoughtful, and yes, they even let me make a few mistakes so I could learn from them. Without their wisdom, I would not have been the person I am today. These are women and men I still turn to for advice.

Now, as Chairman, I have the benefit of being able to spend quality time with our people. I travel around the country hearing directly from PwC-ers at every level.

What is most striking to me is the commitment each of them feels to our clients, our firm, and to society overall. In part, I attribute this passion to PwC’s philosophy of building leaders. When you work here, you are not simply exposed to the granular part of your role in the team; you are an integral part of the larger discussions that are shaping our world. Our Purpose is to build trust and solve important problems and that comes into play for every single PwC-er every day.

Finally, when I think of people, I think of our clients--some of the most innovative, enterprising, and creative thinkers of our times. My message to our next generation of auditors--and those of you considering a career in the field is: the exposure and opportunities will be unlike any other. This exciting field will give you experiences that will shape your thinking about the world and give you a lifetime of professional and personal growth.

From my first days in college, I always knew accounting was the profession I wanted to be in--its foundation of quality, independence and objectivity was a natural draw for me. And accounting is ever more important in the rapidly changing economic landscape. We have seen “megatrends” such as demographic shifts, urbanization, resource scarcity, technological advances and changes in economic power in last few years, and these trends are creating opportunities and challenges for society that are require this commitment to providing quality statements building trust in capital markets and solving important problems.

At PwC we trace our firm back more than 165 years and embedded in our culture has always been the sentiment that the audit profession is integral to our economy and our way of life. It’s also a great job to have! At PwC, we are and we always have been #AuditorProud.

I look forward to hearing from you on why you are #AuditorProud. @Timothy_F_Ryan

I was an "auditee" of PWC's and was always impressed with their professionalism. Having worked for and with other firms over the years, PWC has always represented the gold standard in my mind.
