ICTSI's emerging infrastructure projects to support growth in the Philippines

The Philippines' is a country made up of more than 7,100 islands spread across an area exceeding 300,000 sq/km. Given the geographical design of the country, movement thru sea freight is the most ideal and practical, especially those shipping by volume. The Port of Manila, ranks 36th out of 100 Top Container Ports in the world according to Lloyd's List and Containerization International for 2016 which is no surprise given that fact that the Philippine economy is booming and has been a top performer in the region for several years now in terms of GDP growth. Two other ports near Manila namely the Port of Batangas and Subic Port are being utilized as a support facilities to complement the Port of Manila (which is starting to feel some congestion, despite the reassurance that port utilization is under the spell of normalcy, according to the PPA). A growing economy needs an equal amount of improvements in terms of port facilities.

Spearheading this is Mr. Enrique Razon's ICTSI (International Container Terminal Services, Inc.), a global powerhouse in the port infrastructure industry. For Q1 2018, Revenues topped a record high of $325M, a 9% increase from the same period last year. It's primarily driven by higher volumes and new revenue streams from the Australia and Papua New Guinea terminals. In the local scene, they've beefed up their investments and upped the ante in terms of securing their pivotal role in the port operations segment.

Their flagship unit, the MICT (Manila International Container Terminal) has recently expanded their capacity (Berth 7) to accommodate more vessels and cargoes. The North Port which caters mostly to Domestic cargoes have gone through major renovation and expansion over the years to better serve the increasing demand - ICTSI recently bought a majority stake in MNHPI's North Port operations, cementing its hold on port facilities both Domestic and International (MIP). An alternate Barging Port is being constructed in Tanza, Cavite as well.

Off-dock facilities are also on the rise. ICTSI owns and operates the LGICT -"Laguna Gateway International Container Terminal" located in Calamba, Laguna. This would serve as a future Customs Bonded facility with Railway capability, serving CALABARZON.

These new port-infra expansion projects would help support the growing economy and provide the necessary network for trade to freely move within the country - a major win for Supply Chains across industries in the Philippines.
