The Importance of Local Marketing

Did you know that 46% of searches on Google have local intent? Research shows that when people perform a local search, there is a high likelihood to purchase.

Every business needs to pay attention to local searches.

If your business is not appearing highly ranked for local searches, you are missing opportunities.

Here are two tips that will help you appear on page 1 for local searches

1 - Aim for Google's 3-pack

On nearly all local searches, Google presents the “3-pack,” which are the three businesses Google considers most relevant to the searcher’s intent.

Below is an example of a search for “san diego pediatric dentist”

The first listing is an ad driven by Google Ads (we can help with that). The other three listings are the top organic ranked Google matches for what the user searched for.

The listings in the “3-pack” are hugely valuable to drive traffic to your website.

Maximize the chances of your business appearing in the “3-pack” by:

  • Claiming your Google My Business listing and keeping it updated with information
  • Upload pictures of your business with its products or services
  • Soliciting as many reviews as possible, ideally containing keywords you want to be found for
  • Regularly posting on your Google My Business listing news about your business

2 - Go Beyond Google

Google’s algorithm takes into account online directories.

Ensure your NAP (name, address and phone) are correct on as many directories as possible. The important thing is that you appear on those directories and that the listings are 100% accurate and identical on each. For example, “123 Main Street” is different from “123 Main St.” which could negatively impact your overall organic ranking.

The importance of local marketing for small businesses

You can easily set up and verify your information on directories such as yellowpages.com, local.com, Bing Places and Yelp, to start with. There are hundreds of other directories where you can appear. Consider using a service that do this for you (we can help here too).

Make 2022 the year you dial into your marketing to boost your online visibility and sales.
