Resources for Accessibility Awareness: GAAD

Resources for Accessibility Awareness: GAAD

Thursday 16th May marked the 13th Global Accessibility Awareness Day (GAAD).

In 2024, Web AIM analysed one million home pages for accessibility issues revealing that 95.9% of home pages have at least one WCAG 2.0 failure, this improved slightly from 96.3% in 2023. These findings underscore the significant gap in digital accessibility.

From both a civil rights and a business perspective, people with disabilities are underserved by today’s digital products. By promoting accessibility, we can break down barriers, bridge the digital divide, and collaborate to create a society that embraces diversity and equal opportunities for everyone!

Our partners at Recite Me have created an insightful free course, "An Introduction to Accessibility and Digital Inclusion." This course offers a comprehensive overview of the principles and practices of accessibility and digital inclusion, covering essential topics such as web accessibility standards, assistive technologies, and designing inclusive digital experiences.

6th Annual D&I Leaders Global Forum 2024: Highlights

6th Annual D&I Leaders Global Forum 2024: Highlights

The 6th annual d&i Leaders (Diversity and Inclusion Leaders) Forum took place in London last month in which 500+ DE&I changemakers came together for two-days of inspiration, learning, reflection and peer support along with the online participants who attended virtually.  It was an honour for Charlotte Sweeney OBE to chair again this year and to hear the wonderful insights from the speakers and panellists! Some key takeaways from the two days include:

  • Active Listening as a Leadership Superpower: Actively listening to others can transform leadership effectiveness.
  • DEI as a Core Value: DEI should be embedded in the core values of every organisation, not treated as a standalone project.
  • Humanising Data: Data should be used in ways that highlight the human aspect of DEI efforts.
  • Leveraging Technology for Social Good: Utilising technology can significantly advance social initiatives.
  • Active Allyship: True allyship should be actionable and focused on continuous progress rather than perfection.
  • Leadership Involvement: Leaders must educate themselves, stay curious, and practice inclusivity continuously.
  • Reframing 'Failure': View setbacks as learning opportunities and budget for them as part of the growth process.

The 50-Year Career and the 100-year life: Inclusive Disruption Podcast

The 50-Year Career and the 100-year life: Inclusive Disruption Podcast

In this episode of Inclusive Disruption, Charlotte is joined by Kay Allen OBE, the Campaign Director for Age Relevance and strategic advisor for Purple Space. They discuss the importance of age diversity and inclusion in the workplace, and how organisations can adapt to the era of longevity.

Kay emphasises the need for organisations to move away from standardisation and one-size-fits-all policies, and instead empower line managers to find solutions that are right for their teams. They also discuss the value of listening to different perspectives and evolving policies based on evidence and feedback.

This episode is packed with actionable strategies and thought-provoking ideas that you won't want to miss.
