Innocence (short film)

Innocence (short film)

For those who don't know me, my name is Miranda Jean Larson. Normally I work as an actor in theatre, film, and commercials in NYC, but recently I put on some new hats as a producer, writer, and co-director for my new short film, Innocence.

Innocence puts the conversation of how to heal after traumatic and life changing experiences into the voice of a child. Even though sexual assault is a large part of the story, the film was not originally intended to be so focused on assault and rape and being the victim, but rather on a little girl named Paige who talks with the Survivor and tries to convince her not to commit suicide. Paige is the hope we have in all of us; that voice in our head that says everything is going to be ok, and that it was not our fault.

Though this film's story is so relevant being released in the wake of the #MeToo and Times Up movements, the script was actually written back in 2011 as a college assignment. I re-discovered the script about a year before filming and months before the Harvey Weinstein scandal broke. After doing a few minor rewrites and readings, I contacted my friend and co-director Mike Cicchetti to finally see it made. It was while we were in production that the Weinstein story came out.

Though our film does help to raise more awareness of sexual assault, we also want to raise awareness of happiness and how to heal emotionally. Survivors are not alone. We have a future. This year it has been more apparent than ever that healing is possible. Everything that the #MeToo movement, Times Up, and the organizations like the Joyful Heart Foundation* have spoken about all leads back to speaking up, asking for help, and moving forward to be a stronger person.

We are currently submitting Innocence into film festivals. You can view our trailer and website at this link: Innocence (short film).

We are still continuing to raise money for our Film Festival journey on GoFundMe. Please donate what you can to help us get to as many film festivals as possible.

I dedicate this film to all women and men who feel lost and broken, and to let them know that they are strong, and they are not alone even when they are.
