Innovative Partnership with the Film Industry
When Ben Elton and the Three Summers team got together with FISH - Foundation for Indigenous Sustainable Health they did not realise the significance of the journey they were about to go on. A national partnership was formed as FISH became the National Charity Partner for Ben Elton's new film Three Summers and since then many exciting initiatives have evolved.
FISH's Aboriginal Elder Koodah Cornwall provided the cultural advice for Three Summers and the Bindjareb Middar Dance Group became part of the film. Koodah provided the film crew and cast with a range of cultural experiences and learning and FISH was able to get involved in mentoring and supporting some of the young Aboriginal actors new to the industry.
In working with the Film Distributor, Transmission Films, and also the production team FISH was able to develop a merchandise product range for Three Summers as part of the fundraising initiative and also ran a major fund-raising event called the 'Red Carpet Charity Gala Premiere of Three Summers' where over 350 people were able to enjoy a fun filled night of 4 course dinner, Q&A with Ben Elton and actors, premiere screening, entertainment and after party.
This partnership displays the innovation that can be brought into very different partnerships and how both parties can benefit. From day one there was a deep sense of respect and valuing of each other with the joint aim of wanting to make a positive sustainable difference in the lives of Aboriginal people, their families and the community.
The benefits are ongoing and if you have not had the opportunity to see the film can I encourage you to get to the cinema to see this wonderful Australian classic that all Australians should see.
