Energy’s Top 5

1. Renewables expand to 23% of US electrical generation in 2023, with solar in the lead (Electrek.co)

According to the latest data from the US Energy Information Administration, renewables accounted for over 22.7% of electrical generation in 2023. Solar energy, in particular, saw impressive growth, with small-scale solar leading the charge, increasing by 20.1% last year.

2. Across America, clean energy plants are being banned faster than they're being built (USA Today)

Roughly 15% of U.S. counties have effectively halted new utility-scale wind or solar projects through various restrictions, including bans, moratoriums, and construction impediments.

3. DOE Unveils Roadmap for the Next Generation of Geothermal Power (Energy.gov)

According to the report, with continued innovation and strong public-private partnerships, the U.S. could increase geothermal energy production to 90 gigawatts or more by 2050, aligning with the nation’s goal of achieving a carbon-free electricity grid by 2035.

4. Solar power fuels over 36% of electricity demand in Texas for 5 hours (Interesting Engineering)

Texas surpassed California as the state with the highest installed solar capacity on its grid. ERCOT recently reported 18,365 megawatts of solar power capacity installed, as of September 30. That is enough to serve nearly 3.7 million homes.

5. Amid explosive demand, America is running out of power (Washington Post)

The Washington Post shared that AI and clean-tech manufacturing are two elements pushing the US power grid to maximum capacity. What is clear is the importance of strategic planning and flexibility for commercial users to mitigate risks and capitalize on emerging opportunities.
