Interesting Reason Why Sales Reps Don't Stick To New Fit Habits

Interesting Reason Why Sales Reps Don't Stick To New Fit Habits

Every time I get inspired to chase a new shiny goal in my fitness or my business I always fall into the trap of adding more to my plate and my mind instead of first reducing and organizing my plate and my mind first.

I need to organize my Garage Gym.

This is how I think about it. I have this beautiful gym in my mental garage. It has everything I need to reach my fitness and health goals. It has adjustable dumbbells, adjustable bench, a full squat rack set up, attachments for my bands, and area for my stretching. It has everything I need to be superman fit. I also know the exercises I need to do to reach my goal of being superman fit. There is only one problem though…

Shit is everywhere in my mental garage!!

I have an old motorcycle leaking oil all over the floor. I have tools all disorganized. Uncle Jim gave me my tie down straps in a rats nest. Talking about rats I see small bite marks in one of the cardboard boxes that leads to what could only be the rat’s outhouse. This whole situation is covered with a beautiful layer of dust. The situation is completely disorganized.

Now let's go from metaphor to the real world for a moment. I want to get to my superman version of myself. I have access to the gym and the knowledge but shit is everywhere in my mind. I have taxes to file, relationship issues that are happening, I am behind on projects in my job, I am not sleeping well, I feel like I have no time and something else just came up… It is no wonder I am having issues focusing on the required tasks needed to reach my objective of superman fit. The craziest part is I still beat myself up for not putting in the work on my health even though it is out of my capacity.

Let’s head back to the mental garage gym now and make some changes.

Step 1: I commit to myself to say NO to everything that does not help me get to my primary goal and NO to anything new in the gym till I organize it.

Step 2: I will clear a path in my garage to my gym and I clean off only the base equipment I need for the most basic exercises

Step 3: I complete a basic work-out to start the habit

Step 4: I start organizing my garage from the most important to the least. Building new systems and habits as I go. (Mr.Rat 🐀 I am coming for you!)

Step 5: I celebrate my actions not the outcome

Now let’s go to the real world.

Step 1: I commit to NO. No new projects, vacations, outings, hobbies or commitments.

Step 2: I choose the most basic habits that will help me get to my superman objective. These habits are exercising at home, tracking my nutrition, and going to bed at a specific time.

Step 3: I complete these habits right away

Step 4: I schedule time blocks to tackle the fires, I note to build systems during the same time blocks so these fires never come up again, I schedule to outsource food prep, home cleaning, and laundry to allow more focused time at work, and I schedule mandatory time to have full focus on my relationship.

Step 5: I keep my expectations high for myself and celebrate every time I complete a task that helps me get closer to my objective.

I am striving to have an organized mental garage and organized life. I feel so much more grounded, focused, and at peace when my mental space is organized. It allows me to tackle the actions needed to get closer to my objective. This is why my personal space and work space is always quiet and organized. I continue to build systems so that there is no spam in my emails, my google drive is organized, I have systems for my banking and taxes, and I follow a financial and time budget.

100% of all sales professionals who have initial conversations with me are at 100% mental capacity. They are surprised when I do not prescribe an hour long intense daily workout. Instead we only tackle the 1 habit that will give us the greatest results.

Let’s get that mental garage gym organized 💪
