INTERN DIARIES

                                                  INTERN DIARIES

The hardest part of the internship was to pen down my experiences as intern in few lines...Anyhow I gave it a try continuing the spirit of an intern...Here it goes....

In the last month of my college I started my hunt for internships, to know how the actual world of design works. But one thing I was pretty sure that I didn’t want to just make 3D drawings for someone's design. And that’s when I got a chance to intern @ Avantika

My journey of internship started at a coffee shop where she actually gave me the details of the project she was handling...I was very excited....My first day as intern, I had to visit a site and begin with electrical drawings, that was the first ever on field experience...there were some confusions initially but then finally I made it with her help. My travel as an intern had many interesting phases each one with its  own course of challenges which I would describe precisely.

Explore phase………….I traveled a lot to understand the market, to find the right materials, right vendors, making contacts. I have seen other shade of this busy city

Making concepts phase………..Many random thoughts, fantasies, ideas, when actually come onto the paper with constraints like site feasibility, client needs and viability on board were slacked off to two or three.

Trying to learn the language phase………My ability to understand and speak Hindi has really improved after the internship. Thanks to carpenters, painters, vendors from old market everyone who have helped us with the project

In hunt of vendors phase……… Finding the actual person who can bring our imagination into life was really tough. We planned something out of concrete as part of our design and believe me it took two weeks for me to find the person who can do it.

Not to lose my cool phase ……… Somehow in the midst of the project everyone got to relax and the whole process was slowed down. I remember running to Avantika and complaining like a child that these guys (workers) are not answering my calls and she tried to calm me saying ‘welcome to the actual world of design’.

Work on speed phase………When the deadline was approaching, the work seems to be completed but still there would be many small detailing to be done. We have all departments working on board to give their final touch to the space. Managing all of them together was a challenge.

Final handover………. When it was finally the time to handover I had all mixed kind of emotions. Excitement, satisfaction and also a bit of unease,  that my daily routine NIVAN HABITATS for the past two months is going to change.

I am lucky enough to be a part of wonderful project in the very early stage of my career, thanks to Mr.Hemanth. Zillion thanks to Avantika for the entire experience.
