Internet Ghosts: A Social Newsletter

7/19 This week in social: Brat summer is heating up, creators are shouting out their first follower, tips on how to maximize your aura, and more.

A bit of the internet:

  • Brat vs Charm Summer | “Brat summer” has competition as Clairo has released her new album, “Charm,” which is more mellow and melodic than Charli XCX’s electropop dance album. Fans of both artists are discussing the contrasting styles on TikTok and choosing which album resonates more with their summer vibe, thus sparking dichotomy between “Brat summer” and “Charm summer."
  • Auramaxxing | What began as a simple method to pursue self-improvement, "Auramaxxing" is now sweeping TikTok, with young men sharing changes in their overall energy and presence. Creators like Frank Meki have been documenting their journeys of elevating their auras, which can include working on social skills, attempting to grow taller (heightmaxxing) and changing their wardrobes. Meki says, "I feel like it's a new term for being cool... Auramaxxing is just taking care of yourself and also knowing who you are as a person first before you try to show other people."
  • 🫶 Shoutout to the day ones 🫶 | Once you’ve made it big on social media it’s easy to forget who supported you from the very beginning. This thoughtful trend has been all over TikTok with users who have amassed thousands of followers giving a special shoutout to their very first follower. Not only is this an easy trend to participate in it’s also a fun way to interact with fans in a genuine way.
  • 3 Hour Flight, No WiFi | Earlier in the week, al3xellyson posted a video on TikTok saying '3 hour flight, no wifi convince me someone famous commented' which led to several brands, creators, celebrities and athletes commenting. The video now has 25 million views, 3 million likes and 25 thousand comments. Thank you TikTok for always keeping us entertained.
