IRONMAN of Recruitment
Half IRONMAN Barcelona 2016

IRONMAN of Recruitment

On the 7th of October 2018 I will hopefully be completing the Barcelona Ironman (I am signed up!) – a gruelling one-day challenge that comprises of a 3.8km swim, 180km bike ride and a 42km run (dubbed the hardest one-day endurance challenge in the world)!

This week my heavy training schedule commenced as we entered 30 weeks out from the event and saw me start with a 6am swim set on Monday morning at the local swimming baths followed by a heavy week of training around working long hours with a mix of cycling and running.

Having such supportive colleagues is key for me being able to train and work. Discussing how training sessions are going and having the odd laugh around slow people swimming in the fast lane is great and helps make light of the huge task ahead!

Recruitment is a hugely competitive environment and we all want to be the best so being amongst colleagues who are all just as ambitious is very like competing in events. We often discuss how to break down tasks/campaigns just like I would a Triathlon- small key tasks repeated daily amount to success.

I completed a ½ Ironman event in Barcelona in 2016 in under 7hours following a serious cycling accident in 2014 which saw me break my knee and spent 9months recovering after having 2 reconstructive operations.

I’ll be posting regular updates of how training is going and how I fit training in around work - also other events that I’m competing in other the coming months.

I’m planning on competing at this event to raise money for a local charity- more details to be released shortly -
