JDE Peet’s Commitment to Sustainability on World Environment Day 🌍

At JDE Peet’s, we believe that coffee and tea can bring people together and make a positive impact on the world. We are committed to ensuring that these cherished beverages can be enjoyed responsibly today and for generations to come. That is why sustainability is at the core of everything we do.

#GenerationRestoration

This year’s theme for World Environment Day focuses on ecosystem restoration. Through our signature Common Grounds programme, we are proud to champion sustainable growth in the coffee and tea sector. Here’s how JDE Peet’s is contributing to #GenerationRestoration:

Deforestation Remediation

We actively engage in reforestation projects across our sourcing regions. By working hand-in-hand with local communities, we restore and protect vital ecosystems. Our commitment to deforestation remediation helps to preserve biodiversity and supports the health of our planet.

Biochar Usage

To combat improve soil health, we’re looking into the use of biochar into agricultural practices. This innovative approach not only enhances soil fertility but also captures carbon, playing a role in mitigating climate change.

Water Management

Efficient water use is crucial in our operations. We have implemented advanced water management practices to reduce consumption to prevent drought and improve water quality. By treating and recycling water, we are committed to preserving this precious resource for future generations.

In Salvador, JDE Peet’s has developed a system where rainwater is (re-)used for cleaning purposes, and in time will be also used during the coffee production process, including for cooling and washing of coffee beans.

In Colombia, through a project implemented in conjunction with FNC, we seek to empower communities in Columbia’s Tolima and Cauca regions to take ownership over community initiatives for water access and management. Farmers will be trained on integrated water management, with the inclusion of women and youth as key actors. This project also promotes environmental sustainability, climate-intelligence coffee crops, and profitable farms by building productive and commercial knowledge and capacity. This project has reached 2,957 farmers to date.

We take pride in our service and the impact we have as a coffee and tea provider. Our work is guided by a deep understanding of the needs of our customers, the planet, and the farmers and communities we work with. Join us in marking World Environment Day and supporting sustainable practices in the coffee and tea industry. 🌿
