Jua's Monthly Staff Spotlight

Jua's Monthly Staff Spotlight

What do you do on a day to day basis at Jua?

I help Jua keep the proper course on the path to AGI; concretely, that means disseminating AGI research and discourse within the company, and contributing relevant AGI insights to the R&D roadmap and implementation thereof.

What attracted you to our company and what made you choose us over other employers in the industry?

It was the fact that Jua’s AGI vision aligns both with my technical speciality and with how I myself envision the road to AGI. In particular, Jua takes a grounded approach to learning, from the physics up. This is in contrast to LLM-first companies, whose world models end up being rather brittle and prone to hallucinations.

How have you seen our company's mission and vision come to life through the work that you do every day?

Through my daily interactions with colleagues, I can sense the progression of insight in terms of our work’s foundations in science in general, and AI in particular. At the same time, I can sense their hunger to keep developing, which motivates me to keep pushing the team forward on the road to general AI.

How have you seen our company innovate and stay ahead of the curve in the industry?

At Jua I’ve witnessed there is both a deep understanding of academic research, and the competence to integrate new state-of-the-art insights and results into our model and product. And we’re constantly working to make this cycle smoother, faster, and automated.

What sets our company apart from other employers in the industry, in your opinion?

On the one hand, the tech is both at the forefront of AI and grounded in earth physics. On the other hand, the culture is the perfect balance between candor and respect, thereby stimulating constructive feedback and continual self-improvement.

What's your favourite thing about the work you do at our company, and how does it contribute to the overall success of the business?

The maturity and sincerity of the people, makes sure my ideas are taken seriously and incorporated – often in a different shape of course, as relevant to the business, but this allows me to learn and grow as well.

What are some of the most interesting trends or developments you've seen in the industry, and how is our company positioning itself to stay ahead of the curve?

For 20 years I’ve been a proponent of AGI, which until recently was more of an academic exercise, but now it’s serious business for companies, including Jua of course. Generally speaking, AGI promises that every economically important task can be automated. This does not mean that every human job should be automated (especially social roles like teachers, nurses, and even hairdressers). And there are many tasks that humans cannot perform that intelligent machines can, for example optimizing complex manufacturing or chemical processes to maximally reduce wastage and save on earth’s raw resources. Indeed, Jua is in the business of building models of physical processes, which can be leveraged for successive applications in meteorology, chemicals, materials, biomedicine, etc. We can stay ahead of the curve by ensuring our models are grounded, verifiable, and easily reusable across real-world applications.
