July 2024 Community Newsletter

This month we’ve published two of the keynote presentations from our UK Lean Summit. Depending on whether you like to read, watch or just listen, each is available on the LEA blog and on our YouTube Channel

The purpose of my talk at the Summit was to attempt to identify and cluster the high level challenges organisations talk to us about. These are problems or challenges organisations and individuals currently  need to solve.  Of course, all problems are situational, so the activities taken should be relevant to your unique needs. The common themes we discussed are as follows:

  • The productivity challenge
  • Supply chain disruption
  • The environmental crisis
  • Developing new products and services to deliver to customers
  • The growing use of digital
  • Managing inflation and the cost of living crisis
  • Talent development and retention

We are always interested to hear how organisations and individuals are closing their gaps using lean thinking and practice. But you can help. If you have a good story or some useful lessons learned in meeting these challenges get in touch. We want to capture as many as we can for next year’s event.

If there are additional issues you feel aren’t on this high level list, please let us know what you think they are. There is always the opportunity to network with others facing similar challenges with the aim of learning and sharing what is or isn’t working in these areas.

Best wishes,

Dave Brunt

The Democratisation of Lean - 7 Challenges for our Time & The Lean Transformation Framework

Following Dan Jones discussed democratising problem solving at last year's summit, this year David Brunt discusses 7 challenges for our time and why we need everyone applying a lean thinking way to them.  A blog of David's keynote is also available on the LEA blog page, along with the YouTube Clip. Coming Soon Management System - Improvement Online Course

An Improvement Management System is about improving the level of performance for a process or activity. These are the methods that enable an organisation to make step changes in performance to improve its competitiveness over the medium and longer term. The improvement activities are prioritised to align with the vision and goals of the business and focus on raising current performance levels through specific Kaizen / Project Activity.

Our Management System Skill Level 1: Knowledge online course will be available on our Learning Platform soon and will cover the Purpose, Process and People elements of an Improvement Management System. If you haven't already completed our Management System - Performance Skill Level 1: Knowledge online course, we recommend doing this first.
