🐈⬛ Employee Spotlight: Meet Paul Fisher

Paul Fisher, Lead Analyst, KuppingerCole Analysts

Q: What’s the most rewarding part of your job?

The most rewarding part of my job is learning new stuff, or Everyday I Learn (EIL) as I have coined it. Even though I’m a little long in the tooth now, it’s never too late to learn new technologies and skills and you can do that at KuppingerCole Analysts AG – in fact you have to! I also like the fact that what I, and my colleagues do, has a real impact. We are influencers and what we say and write affects buying decisions – and hopefully we get it right most times. But of course, that is why you have to keep learning because this industry never stands still.
Talking to vendors, and especially startup crews, in workshops is fabulous. With the startups you usually get talk to the founders directly – and it is cool to watch those guys develop (or get acquired!). It is great when they appreciate my advice, and you feel you have had a direct impact on product development and marketing. And finally, sometimes, the devil in me likes to challenge the status quo and look at things differently as Martin Kuppinger does.

Q: What do you do outside of work?

Outside of work, my main interests could not BE any more different (Chandler voice) from the nine to five. I love art and have been collecting pieces for a few years (which does not always please my other half), which range from some German Expressionism to Allen Jones right up to today with Harland Millar. Plus, a lot of obscure Italian and Scandinavian stuff found at auction. Whenever I travel to a city, I always seek out the nearest gallery or museum – Berlin has some wonderful museums. I love Berlin. Not as much as London or New York but it’s up there.
I also do photography and publish my own collections under the banner of Republic of England – a true vanity project! I recently discovered golf after years of dismissing it as the most awful thing anyone could do – obviously I am not very good, but the good thing is no one else is either! I guess you could say clothes are an interest, I buy a lot of vintage pieces. Oh, I nearly forgot the old money pit, the SL 320 – my most expensive hobby – keeping a 26-year-old Mercedes on the road! 🏎️

Q: What are you most looking forward to at cyberevolution?

This year, I’m excited about the opportunity to network with fellow cybersecurity professionals and exchange ideas on the latest industry trends. My main focus is on identity and PAM, but in the end, everything comes back to keeping data secure and so the sessions on Identity and Cybersecurity will be of particular interest. Like EIC, just being at a conference is a great buzz and always inspiring to hear from industry leaders and gain new perspectives that I can bring back to my own work. As I said, there is always something new to learn!

Thanks Paul, and thank you dear reader! See you again in September!
