Kindred Ties: Celebrating Moments that Matter

Over the months of May and June, we celebrated the holidays of Labour Day, Mother’s Day, Father’s Day, and Vesak day. Around the world, we saw communities collectively come together to recognise and honour the people closest to our hearts. In ZALORA, we also believe that it is important to celebrate the moments that matter with our loved ones. In this issue, we highlight the key moments where our Zalorians spent quality time with each other.

Hari Raya Celebrations

In the spirit of fostering unity and togetherness, ZALORA Indonesia held a remarkable Raya celebration, known as Halal bi Halal. This festive event provided Zalorians with a unique opportunity to strengthen their friendships, enhance camaraderie within the company, and promote forgiveness among colleagues. The celebration was filled with delightful moments, including a captivating Muslim fashion show, delectable canapes, and a heartwarming atmosphere of reconciliation.

As the Raya celebration approached its culmination, Zalorians gathered in a heartwarming atmosphere of forgiveness and reconciliation. Inspired by the teachings of forgiveness during this holy month, the event provided a dedicated space for colleagues to express their apologies, forgive each other, and strengthen their relationships. This gesture not only emphasised the values of compassion and understanding within the ZALORA community but also promoted a positive and harmonious work environment.

This celebration exemplified our commitment to fostering unity, diversity, and forgiveness among our employees. The event successfully brought together Zalorians from various backgrounds, enabling them to appreciate the richness of their cultural heritage and strengthen their bonds as a team. Through the captivating Muslim fashion show, delightful culinary experiences, and touching moments of reconciliation, ZALORA Indonesia and Malaysia demonstrated the power of celebration in nurturing a harmonious and inclusive work environment.

GFG Supervisory Board Visit

As part of the Global Fashion Group , ZALORA recently had the privilege of hosting the GFG Management Board at our Kuala Lumpur office and regional fulfilment centre. Led by Christoph Barchewitz , CEO of GFG, the visit included key executives and Supervisory Board members who engaged directly with our passionate team of Zalorians in Southeast Asia. The three-day visit served as a valuable opportunity for knowledge-sharing, strategic discussions, and cultural immersion, further strengthening the bond between GFG and ZALORA.

Throughout their visit, the GFG Management Board members engaged in productive conversations with ZALORA's teams across various departments, including operations, finance, sustainability, and commercial. This direct interaction provided an invaluable platform for our Zalorians to share updates on the progress of regional strategies and projects, and to exchange insights on industry trends and best practices. Fireside chats with the board members offered our team the opportunity to gain valuable perspectives on leadership and receive guidance for their professional growth.

To truly understand the inner workings of ZALORA's operations, the GFG Management Board members rolled up their sleeves and had hands-on experience at our regional fulfilment centre. They actively participated in packing items, gaining firsthand knowledge of the meticulous processes involved in ensuring efficient and timely deliveries to our valued customers. This immersive experience not only showcased the commitment of the GFG leaders but also inspired our Zalorians with their genuine interest in understanding the day-to-day operations of our business.

Recognizing the importance of embracing local culture, the GFG Management Board members immersed themselves in the diverse cultural tapestry of Malaysia. As part of this cultural exchange, they had the opportunity to explore ZALORA's line of Modest wear from our Raya collection, gaining insights into the significance of this fashion segment in Southeast Asia. 

The visit of the GFG Management Board to ZALORA's Kuala Lumpur office and regional fulfilment centre was a memorable and enriching experience for both the board members and our dedicated team of Zalorians. The engagement, knowledge-sharing, and cultural immersion fostered a strong sense of collaboration, reinforcing the unity between GFG and ZALORA. As we continue to work towards our shared goals, this visit served as a testament to the collective effort and commitment of our teams, ensuring our position as a leading fashion expert in Southeast Asia.

Regional Volunteering

Our volunteering programme continues throughout the region, with Zalorians doing their part to shape and drive change for a sustainable world and future.

In Malaysia, our team of energetic volunteers gathered at the Malaysian Nature Society to plant seeds of Malaysia’s national tree - the Merbau, which is a sustainable type of wood due to its carbon sequestration and storage. The team of volunteers geared themselves up with loves, trowels, spades, and got down to work. Together, our Zalorians managed to plant 712 polybags of seeds!

In Singapore, another group of excited Zalorians partnered with The Salvation Army Singapore to sort donations for recycling and reuse . Armed with nothing but a pair of thick sorting gloves and limitless spirit, the group spent two afternoons sorting a dozen donation bins filled with toys, clothing, electronics, and books. Most donations were in perfectly working order, with one Zalorian finding a fully functional guitar! The team was also amazed at the sheer amount of donations that are received on a typical day, usually up to 10 tonnes! 

ZALORA believes that we have a responsibility to continue to be a Force for Good for our planet by contributing to the local communities we operate in.

ZALORA Safety Week

ZALORA is dedicated to providing safe workspaces for our employees around the region. In May, our operations team reaffirmed our commitment to safety by organising our annual Safety week in our Malaysian regional fulfilment hub. The event, which aims to reinforce and cultivate a culture of safety, was attended by Zalorians from all our fulfilment centres, including ZALORA Indonesia and Philippines.

To reaffirm their unwavering commitment and responsibility to the well-being of every team member, attendees participated in activities designed to impart and raise awareness of safety best practices. These activities included holding an international safety dialogue, and several other safety-themed contests and challenges.

Our Zalorians also took the opportunity to forge stronger relationships with each other and contribute to our local community through a series of fun activities such as holding a skipping contest and a blood donation drive.

This event brought together teams from around the region and reaffirmed their commitment to building a safe working environment. Safety starts with each individual, and through constant attention and vigilance we will continue to keep each other safe. Together, we will keep our workspaces safe!
