Lazy or Smart?

If that's the case, I may be one of the laziest persons I know.

 Interestingly, I have been working harder than most people I ever met. But my goal was most of the times, to find ways to get things done faster and with less effort.

I grew up believing that the only way to win in life or in business was working HARD. The harder the better.

I saw how my dad would work 7 days a week to win our bread. Effort, hours and force.  

And to some extent I agree, hard work is required to almost anything. Building a profitable business or a loving and long lasting relationship

The questions you want to ask yourself though are:

• For how long can I keep pushing up the hill? 
• When is a good time to start working smarter instead of harder? 
• What is a good work-life balance so I can maintain my level of commitment and performance?

From my early days at UNI getting my Engineering Degree until today, I have worked really hard to find ways that would allow me to work less and achieve more. 

I would usually spend the bare minimum amount of time doing the things I didn't want to do or disliked. These are usually the tasks we feel like we are putting so much effort and hard work into.

When you do something out of INSPIRATION and in an enjoyable way, working hard doesn't feel like it anymore. 

Spending hours and days working on a project you are passionate about, will feel like playing to you. Yet everyone in the "outside world" will think you are working crazy hours.

So, where should we draw the line?

How much time and effort should we put on the things we dislike doing but are necessary to succeed?

The answer is: As little as you possibly can.

Because the truth is that, like it or not:

-You have a certain amount of time

-A certain amount of strength

-A certain amount of will power

-A certain amount of patience, bandwidth, etc… 

You can stretch your physical boundaries to an extent. And usually by over using coffee or other stimulants and at the expense of hours of sleep, family time, time to rest and unwind, etc...

We are bombarded on social media with online gurus messages that preach over the culture of the HUSTLE and BUSTLE. Sleep less, work more, make more, push push push...

And for way too many years this is exactly what I did. I hit the wall many times, but I was too blind to see the reality of what was actually happening.

In the pursuit of someone else's dreams, I chose to believe that it's ok to sacrifice your life to create the life you are actually missing on.

How can this make sense?

We have one life and it's happening NOW. And I would agree that priorities must be set in terms to accomplish your ultimate goals, but when it feels like a "sacrifice" you are already on the red.

At some point pushing your body leads to exhaustion, stress, overwhelm and ultimately failure. Succeeding requires a LOT of self evaluation and analysis to determine what are you doing, what's working and what is not.

What things you are most productive at, and where are you having the most fun while making a living.

Period.

I prefer to squeeze my mind versus pushing my body to exhaustion, I like to do this only at the gym or when I am hiking on weekends.

Your job, or your work-life shouldn't be a struggle.

Something not many people know about me is that I never give up. If I put my mind on something, sooner or later I will find the way to make it work.

For the last 3 years I spent countless hours trying to figure out how could I work less while making more and delivering the same kind of value to my clients.
