Leaders have one quality: courage

Leaders have one quality: courage

I am sure you have seen a leader in your life: at work, at home, at school, on the street or in a meeting - they are everywhere, often un-noticed. They encourage others to go, beyond them. They encourage do not give permission, they send the ladder down for others, but hold it making sure that the guy on the ladder does not fall. That's is a leader.

A leader could be your teacher, your dad or, friend - who has the courage to lead.

The leader knows that it is time for others to lead - so he teaches them 'how to' and gives them 'tips'. He gives up positions in professional life and puts others in that place.

I know a high school teacher in India who spends few hours every day to help his past students (now in college) in getting help so that they can succeed: setting a standard for other to follow. Now few teachers have joined hands. A leadership is demonstrated with examples.

I know a very senior professional has been working with others to make sure that industry of a country gets help - sets the example through leading at front.

An employee of a multinational when pushed aside by his boss, picked up another assignment after another. When he left this company, one of the world's largest institutions hired him for advising them. He now virtually leads 100s of managers. When asked, he said I learned how to lead by not doing few things - 'courage' not to be disappointed, rather focus on achieving success through quality service.

A leader never stops, he wakes up, gathers himself after a very bad yesterday, and continues. It is because he has the courage to lead.

Let us know if you can join us for a one day workshop on 'Five ways to regain leadership in professional life' at Salt Lake City, Utah, at mid-September.
