Learn how to strengthen Rural Economies better!

Mr. Birkhang Basumatary from Seven Sisters Development Assistance (SeSTA) , who has been associated with the livelihood sector as a Development professional for the last 6 years and his expertise lies in rural livelihood promotion joins hand with Impact Academy to discuss about the importance of the System of Rice Intensification and its challenges.

Key recommendations from the session:

❖   The use of System of Rice Intensification:

The Rice Intensification System entails cultivating rice with as much organic manure as feasible, beginning with young seedlings planted singly at wider spacing in a square design, which provides farmers a higher return on their available resources of land, water, labor, and money, and can reduce their production costs.

❖   Scenario of the System of Rice Intensification in perspective of countries:

SRI's quick spread across the world, particularly in India, can be partially attributed to its proponents' smart communication strategies, which included effective coalition building among numerous national and international organisations and disproportionate coverage of SRI in several Indian newspapers. The benefit of System of Rice Intensification have been validated in 35 countries of Asia, Africa and Latin America.

❖   Constraints and Challenges of System of Rice Intensification:

Since many government departments themselves have been hesitant to support this innovation, civil society organisations have played a major role in grassroots SRI promotion.
