Liberals discuss a stronger EU in the world

With the next EU elections only one year away, ALDE Party and the Friedrich Naumann Foundation for Freedom hosted an event on 21 March to take stock of the current situation for liberals and how they plan to address key challenges for Europe in the upcoming months.  

The event was moderated by ALDE Party Vice-President Svenja Hahn MEP, and included Karin Karlsbro MEP and Member of the German Parliament & Coordinator of Transatlantic Cooperation at the German Federal Foreign Office Michael Link as speakers. The discussion focused on the EU’s role in the world, trade relations, enlargement, security and rule of law.

Agriculture and Fisheries ministers discuss support for trade

On 20 March, ALDE Party and the Renew Europe hosted a meeting of liberal and centrist Ministers from across Europe ahead of the Agriculture and Fisheries Council of the European Union. The meeting was chaired by Morten Løkkegaard MEP and focused heavily on the current market and trade situation for agriculture in light of the Russian invasion of Ukraine. 

Ministers discussed possible support measures at the European Union level and agreed that the new Fisheries Package and Nature restoration law are priority topics.

Liberalerna appoint Climate Committee

Last weekend, the executive board of Liberalerna, one of ALDE Party’s members in Sweden, appointed a Climate Committee at their National Assembly.  

The Committee is led by Swedish Minister for Climate and Environment Romina Pourmokhtari, with the mission to develop the party’s climate policy by creating a new business environment for climate, establishing Sweden as a role model for the EU by exporting green standards and solutions and developing a science-based climate policies that work for people. 

In his speech to the Assembly, party leader and Swedish Minister for Employment and Integration Johan Pehrson also spoke about Putin’s invasion of Ukraine and Swedish NATO membership, women and LGBTQIA+ rights, crime prevention, education reform and how to address inflation. ALDE Party Vice-President Kira Rudik MP also shared remarks with the Assembly.
