Slovak liberals record historic election result

On 30 September, Slovakia held snap parliamentary elections to elect 150 members of the National Council. ALDE Party member Progresívne Slovensko recorded its best-ever result, receiving 17.96% of the popular vote and becoming the country’s second-biggest political force. The party, led by Michal Šimečka MEP, will enter the Slovak Parliament for the first time since its founding in 2017, with 32 MPs.

D66 members elect lead candidate for EU elections

ALDE Party member D66 in the Netherlands confirmed Gerben-Jan Gerbrandy as the party’s lead candidate for the European elections in 2024. Gerbrandy, twice elected a Member of the European Parliament in 2009 and 2014 for D66, was picked by around 5,100 D66 members after four rounds of voting in an internal election, coming out with 56.6% of preferences in the final round.

Italy town hall addresses future of EU democracy

On 30 September, ALDE Party held the fifth event of its Manifesto town hall series in Rome, to gather inputs ahead of the European elections in 2024. Following opening remarks by Più Europa leader Emma Bonino, citizens engaged with political leaders in an active discussion on their hopes and visions for the future of the European Union and the prospect of enlargement.
