The Lies We Tell Ourselves (And How to Stop Believing Them)

The Lies We Tell Ourselves (And How to Stop Believing Them)

Every day, we tell ourselves stories. Stories about who we are, what we’re capable of, and what’s possible for us. Some of these stories empower us, but many of them hold us back.

One of the most damaging lies I’ve seen aspiring and emerging Home Care CEOs tell themselves is this: “I’ll do it later. I’m not ready yet.

The truth is you will never feel ready. You just have to start, scared and all. Just like I did with my home care business. I had every reason not to start. I was working part-time jobs, had little money, and had no clients. But I chose to start anyway.

“You are the only one who can make it happen. Stop waiting for the perfect time. Start now.” — Mel Robbins

Another common lie is: “I don’t have the money to start.” It’s easy to say this and stay where you are. But I’m here to tell you that you don’t need a ton of money to get started; you need resourcefulness.

Or how about this one: “My service area is overcrowded with home care agencies.” But there is no one like YOU in that service area. Your unique approach, vision, and dedication to serving clients with excellence are what make you stand out.

And if you’re already in business, maybe you’re telling yourself: “It’s too hard to get private pay clients.” Sure, it’s a challenge, but it’s not impossible. It requires putting yourself out there, networking, marketing, and believing in the value you provide.

The lie of “I’m not good at marketing” is another one I hear often. Well, guess what? No one is good at something until they start doing it. Marketing is not about being a natural; it’s about consistency and showing up every single day.

“Doubt kills more dreams than failure ever will.” — Suzy Kassem

Then there’s the classic, “I don’t like rejection or talking to people.” Rejection is a part of the game. Every ‘no’ brings you closer to a ‘yes.’ And you never know, your next conversation could be with someone who will change the course of your business forever.

So, here’s the truth bomb: These excuses are lies we tell ourselves to stay safe, to avoid taking risks, and to avoid failure. But in doing so, we also avoid success.

Take a moment today or tonight, grab a journal, and write out the lies you’ve been telling yourself. Get them out of your head and onto the page. Don’t let these excuses hold you back any longer. You owe it to yourself, your family, and your legacy.

Remember, you don’t have to be perfect, but you do have to be in motion. And if you need a little push, think of this quote from Mel Robbins: "There is only one you, and there will never be another one. That is your power." Don’t waste it.

Let’s crush these lies together.
