📬 BULLETIN NEWS:  Drake's surprise (and sizeable) music and video drop

Drake surprised his fans earlier this week by dropping 100GB of music and video at dedicated website 100gigs:

  • There are three new tracks, including ‘It’s Up’ featuring Young Thug and 21 Savage.
  • And the video footage ranges from studio sessions to boozed-up penalty-taking scenes.
  •  As a superstar artist, it's no surprise that Drake has people on his team devoted to shooting video of his daily working (and football-playing) life.
  • It's more surprising that his chosen method for putting that content out is dumping it into an online folder for fans to download.
  • This could be a tubes-clearing exercise ahead of whatever his next project is, or just a way to put his name back in the headlines for positive buzz, after his bruising recent beef with Kendrick Lamar.

🏆 CAMPAIGN OF THE MONTH:  Azawi - 'Masavu'

In a new monthly feature, Music Ally profiles a new music campaign from our database of submissions from labels, distributors and artist teams. This month we're focusing on the campaign for Ugandan artist Azawi, who released her sophomore album 'Sankofa' in October 2023:

  • Distributor and licensor Kelele Digital told us about the campaign, which used a YouTube livestream as the launchpad for the single 'Masavu'.
  • "We started a live stream of the song at 8AM E.A.T on February 14 and we let it run for over 10 hours non-stop," they explained. "In the meantime, Azawi was “silent” on the rest of her social platforms. This way, we created buzz around the song all through to Friday, February 16 when the song was officially available across DSP’s, and later radio."
  • The campaign also involved an AI-generated remix featuring one of Uganda's most legendary artists, the late Mowzey Radio.

👉 You can read about the full campaign from Kelele Digital here. And If you've got a campaign you'd like to tell us about, find all the information you need here.

🤔 A LITTLE SOMETHING EXTRA...

And finally… our daily Bulletin newsletter is loved by subscribers for its instant industry analysis - but secretly, the part they like most is the ‘A Little Something Extra’ section at the bottom of the email. Here's a few of the best recent links:

  • The British Trust for Ornithology is tracking cuckoos on their migration. Keep tabs on Cleeve, Cuthbert, George 2, MacSporran, Wilfrid, and more here. (No, we don't know what happened to George 1. It's probably best not to ask.)
  • Gorilla sofa, anyone?
