On the lockdown and getting fat

I cannot count the number of jokes, images and videos I got on WhatsApp and Facebook on how we all are going to get fat in this lockdown and how we will be hardly be able to get back to the office and fit in our chairs. Time is ample, the fridge is full and with nowhere to go, we cannot stop visiting the kitchen and helping ourselves with all the yummy goodies.

Let us think about it again and go back in time to before the lockdown. Remember how things were with all those business outings and customer dinners where you had to show your generosity. So you order sixteen dishes of Lebanese mezza and ten kilos of mixed barbeque and grill. Remember that surprise birthday party for a colleague at the office- just after you had lunch- and you helped yourself with a big slice of blueberry cheesecake, black forest or what have you. And with Ramadan approaching, remember those heavy annual Iftars and midnight Sohour invitations.

Now all of this is take out of the equation..

Now is the time we are in full control. We choose what gets in our stomachs with nothing enforced on us. It’s our choice. Before we are back to the old norm and before the food party starts again, let’s make use of the opportunity for a full body detox. Now is the time to condition ourselves into eating healthy food. It all starts with the will and the rest is just execution.

Let’s keep the morale high whilst we raise our hands to the sky and pray this crisis is over soon.
