The long-term success blueprint- 5 ways to create a sustainable high-performance work culture

A company's culture is defined by the behaviors and norms of its employees. High-performing companies consistently achieve better financial and non-financial results than their peers, such as customer satisfaction, employee retention, competitiveness, and innovation. Such companies are also characterized by a positive team environment in which employees are motivated to perform at their best on projects at hand.

Here are 5 ways in which you can create that high-performance work culture-

1.    Empower your employees- Employee empowerment is a management strategy in which employees are given the necessary tools and resources to manage tasks without constant supervision. It is the opposite of micromanagement, where managers closely monitor and control employees’ every activity. #EmployeeEmpowerment plays a significant role in creating a #positiveWorkEnvironment that promotes individual and organizational growth.

2.    Communicating core values - Leading by example is a powerful way to communicate core values. #Employees are more likely to take ownership of a company's values if they see their leaders exhibiting those same values. For example, if an organization shows its commitment to inclusion by hiring or promoting employees from underrepresented groups, this should be reflected in all levels of leadership behavior.

3.    Endorsing Positive archetypes- Leaders should encourage a positive and resourceful attitude in team members, as well as reward individuals who represent the values of the organization. When employees perform better, customers are more satisfied, and the overall success of the organization improves as well. The behavior of employees should be reinforced by #leadership in a manner that motivates employees to work more productively thereby increasing their self-esteem.

4.    Prioritizing Open dialogue- Employees do not always want to be told what to do. Leaders should give employees a voice in decision-making, but leaders should also consider whether their employees' input will actually help them make the best decision possible. The most successful leaders empower their employees by communicating a clear vision, creating a culture of trust, and providing training for professional growth.

5.    Establish feedback mechanisms- Promoting a feedback-rich philosophy is an important part of creating a high-performance company culture. The most effective leaders encourage open communication and provide opportunities for employees to voice their opinions on anything that needs improving.

There are some pivotal attributes that define what goes into making of a successful and high functioning team. These can serve as a beacon, as a yardstick to decide whether your team culture is on the right track towards a highly productive and motivated work ethos. Psychological safety is the first one, the team members need to feel safe to take risks and be vulnerable in front of each other. The team members must be seen as dependable with respect to diligence, intent, and punctuality. They should have immense clarity when it comes to understanding shared and individual goals. The work itself should be structured in a way so as to create a sense of meaningfulness and purpose for the employees. And last but not the least the employees should be able to perceive the impact of their work to get a sense of rightful accomplishment.
