✨Looking Ahead to 2025: A New Chair at Green Destinations Foundation ✨

As Green Destinations enters 2025, we are pleased to formally announce D'Arcy Dornan 's transition as Chair of the Green Destinations Foundation. This leadership development is a significant step in advancing our mission to support sustainable tourism globally.

His leadership will ensure the continuation of our work to support destinations in adopting and maintaining sustainable practices.

Albert Salman (L), Founding President of Green Destinations and CEO of GDBV | D'Arcy Dornan (R), New Chair of the Green Destinations Foundation
“D’Arcy was the best fit for the foundation’s Chair role” says Green Destinations’ Founder Albert Salman who created the foundation in September 2016. “11 Years ago I met D’Arcy for the first time in Bonito, Brazil, just before I created Green Destinations as a consulting company. I am still continuing as CEO of Green Destinations LLC, and I take great pleasure in developing the Good Travel Alliance, supported by D’Arcy.”

This transition builds on the accomplishments of 2024, which included:

  • Top 100 Stories: A celebration of innovative and impactful initiatives from destinations worldwide, highlighting the commitment and creativity of communities and businesses in addressing sustainability challenges.
  • Certification Milestones: Reaching 500 certifications under the Good Travel Seal, a testament to the growing recognition of the importance of verified sustainable practices among destinations and businesses.
  • Regional Expansion: Extending Green Destinations’ reach to new regions, particularly the Middle East and North Africa, bringing sustainability principles to a broader range of destinations and stakeholders.
  • Good Travel Alliance Growth: The global network of destinations is continuing to develop, focusing on the sustainability of travel experiences, and sharing best practices for meaningful impact. The Alliance is now ready to be launched at ITB 2025!
  • Global Events: Organising and participating in key international gatherings, such as the Green Destinations 2024 Global Conference in Chile, and ITB 2024 in Berlin, which both brought together leaders from around the world to discuss strategies and solutions for advancing sustainable tourism.
  • Leadership Strengthening: The appointment of Jana Apih as Executive Director of the Green Destinations Foundation marks a step forward in strengthening its governance and aligning with its long-term objectives.

As Chair, D’Arcy Dornan will oversee the Foundation’s ongoing efforts to provide meaningful tools and resources to destinations, ensuring they are equipped to meet sustainability goals effectively.

"I am honoured to take on the role of Chair at the Green Destinations Foundation. Together with our team and partners, I look forward to advancing our mission to create a more sustainable, responsible, regenerative, and resilient future for global tourism. By empowering destinations and tourism businesses with the tools, knowledge, and support they need, we aim to foster sustainable practices that contribute to a thriving world for generations to come." – D'Arcy Dornan

We look forward to continuing our work with our partners and stakeholders and remain committed to driving progress in sustainable tourism.
