Make Loving your Job your New Year's Resolution

I really believe you can love your job, and not just by having the right attitude.  Yes, having a positive attitude helps to see things differently, but eventually the negativity creeps back in.  Sometimes no matter how grateful you try to be, you just can’t be satisfied with your existing circumstances.  So, I say put yourself out there and make a choice to seek a job you love.

In reality, finding another job is a job by itself and finding the job you love won’t be easy.  You will have to actively make an effort to put in A LOT of work.  You will have to discover what makes you tick.  You will have to research companies.  You will have to re-do your resume.  You will have to keep track of all the open jobs on several job boards, and then re-do your resume.  You will have to tediously apply to multiple postings, and then re-do your resume.  You will have to network and meet recruiters, and HR folks, and then re-do your resume.  You will have to dress up and take off work and go on interviews and re-do your resume.  And, you will get frustrated and misunderstood and passed up and did I say you will have to re-do your resume?!?  Okay, so you don’t really HAVE to re-do your resume that many times, but typically your chances are greater if your resume closely resembles the job requirements.

Whether its culture, or company size, or employee recognition, or work-life-balance that you are seeking, finding inspiration takes time, and not every opportunity will be the right fit.  And, we know that New Year’s Resolutions aren’t easy but just like our get-fit, eat-healthy and lose-weight goals, the hard work and effort we put into them are a huge payoff! So, if you are even thinking about it, now’s the time to do it.  Lots of commitments are made this time of year and this one will be one for the books.   It will be a commitment no doubt, but think about how much happier you will be.

If you are looking for someone who can help you stay accountable with this resolution, I’d be happy to help.  I can be a sounding board, provide resume writing advice, give advice on how to use the job boards, let you know about networking events and introduce you to many wonderful companies.  Don’t hesitate to reach out, I’m available to help you get your career goals started and what better time of year to do it!  Because, being your career-accountability-partner is why I love my job.
