Managing a family-owned business

Managing a family-owned business

Let's talk about family and business!

At the beginning of 2021, Alexandrion Group became a 100% family-owned business. It wasn’t an easy transition, but I'm convinced that it is worth it because my dream is to create value not only for now but also for the next generation. And each generation in its turn to create value for the following one. And that’s why my 2 older sons, Antonio and Roberto, are currently completing their academic studies, and are getting ready to step up into the business.

The idea for a family-owned business started with the simple personal desire that Alexandrion Group endures from one generation to another and becomes part of my family story. In time, this desire has transformed into a necessity, because in the approximately 30 years since I founded the group I have learned one precious lesson: the business and wealth must not be owned, but managed and led. I don't want business and money to become a burden for myself or my family. There are a lot of examples around me of founders who transferred the business to their children only to later become overwhelmed and sometimes even devastated by their inheritance. This is why I decided to draw a clear line between business and family, between what it means to manage and own. That’s why my sons must first become professionals before leading, and that is why they will first become employees of the Group, earn their role, and learn to manage a family business.

I hope this unique structure of family business gives us stability, flexibility, and a long-term orientation that traditional companies often lack.

I like your viewpoint here Nawaf Salameh. The fact you are thinking about the transition to the next generation of your business shows real long term planning. 👍
