Meet PPN's CEO: Douglas Berquist

Meet The Public Place Network’s CEO, founder, and digital strategist: Douglas Berquist. A born and raised Albertan with a 30-year award-winning career in film/television and media production, Douglas has produced and distributed projects for MGM/UA, Sony Entertainment, Alliance, Pathe, HBO and TNT. Three of his independent feature films were acquired by the Canadian National Archives recognizing him as a filmmaker of distinction.

As a digital media and multiplatform communications expert, Douglas was commissioned to develop curriculum for NAIT’s (Digital Media and IT department) new digital cinema and transmedia (multiplatform communications) programs. SAIT likewise commissioned him to update the curriculum for their film program (Film/Video/IT Communications departments).

He also was commissioned by Canada’s Department of National Defence to use his specialized expertise to create a multi-platform cultural learning program for soldier pre-deployment training. For this four-year program he was recognized for reducing in-theatre casualties of both civilian and military by 50% and awarded with military commendations.

In the last four years he has developed and launched new technology and business strategies for The Public Place Network. A revolutionary video streaming service, PPN puts the enormous power and economic benefits of global video streaming directly into the hands of content creators not multi-billion-dollar corporations. This disruptive approach has grown 600% in the last year and now includes a strategic partnership with Canada’s third largest communications company for which PPN is providing important community content to their platform and 1.5 million subscribers.
