Military Appreciation Month Employee Spotlight - Kylie, Textron Aviation

Military Appreciation Month Employee Spotlight - Kylie, Textron Aviation

May, marked officially as Military Appreciation Month, is a special month for both those in and out of the military. Not only do we pause on Memorial Day to remember the sacrifice and service of those who gave all, but the month also holds several other military anniversaries and events, including Military Spouse Appreciation Day and Armed Forces day. As we honor those who have served, we are spotlighting Kylie, a Human Resources Business Partner at Textron Aviation who served in the United States Air Force National Guard as Senior Airman, Commander's Support Specialist. Kylie started her career as an intern at Textron Aviation in 2023 before taking on her full-time role. Today, she holds a leadership role in Textron Aviation's VETCOM (Veteran Engagement Through Community Outreach & Mentoring) employee resource group. VETCOM seeks to honor, support, and elevate our Nation's veterans and all supporters across the business and community at large.

1. What is your name, title, and business unit?

Kylie, Human Resources Business Partner - Customer Support, Textron Aviation

2. What was your last (or current) title and rank?

Commander's Support Specialist, Senior Airman

3. What does Military Appreciation Month mean to you?

It's a time for me to reflect on the service and sacrifice of those before me and those to come. It's also a really neat opportunity for civilians and military members to strengthen their bond or build connection. Through hearing stories shared by prior service members or their families, it has challenged me to live a life that is worthy of the ultimate sacrifice paid by so many. Freedom is not free.

4. Can you share a bit about your military background and what inspired you to join the military?

Both of my grandpas served during Vietnam, and I have always admired them deeply for it. My dad also served in the Army, and he is one of my biggest heroes. I believe we live in the best nation and knew that was something worth defending.

5. What unique experiences did you encounter during your service?

It's not like the typical job; we are all here for the same purpose – to defend the freedoms that our Nation stands for. All differences aside, it is beautiful to know we fight for the same thing. I have an undying sense of gratitude. I have been able to experience so many different cultures, people, and places during my service that I know I would not have without the military. Due to these experiences during my time in the service, it has changed the way I act, the way I appreciate my freedom, and the things that I value.

6. Tell us about your journey from military service to joining Textron. How did your background prepare you for your current role?

In my Air Force job, I have always been heavily involved in supporting fellow service members. My AFSC helped me transition into my role of HR customer support very easily. People are my thing, and I'm thankful that's my main focus in both careers!

7. Textron has a strong focus on community engagement. How have you been involved in giving back to the community through your work here?

I am part of the VETCOM (Veteran Engagement Through Community Outreach & Mentoring) ERG leadership team. Through this we get to host events, meetings, and volunteer opportunities for our membership. VETCOM seeks to honor, support, and elevate our Nation's veterans and all supporters across the business and community at large.

8. Lastly, is there anything else you’d like to share about your military service or your experience at Textron that you feel would be meaningful for our audience to know?

Being part of a company that stands behind military service is deeply meaningful. I'm thankful every day for the opportunity to work within a culture that honors and supports our military community. To all service members and your families, thank you for your unwavering dedication, bravery, and commitment to protecting our freedom.
