Celebrating 25 years of Buro Happold bridges
Over the last 25 years, Buro Happold’s bridge engineering team has provided expertise on hundreds of bridges across the world. To celebrate this, we spoke to global bridge engineering lead Davood Liaghat about some of his favourite projects to date.
Steering city-wide climate innovation
A beacon of climate tech and innovation, the Green Economy Action Plan developed key actions and investments to grow New York City’s green economy, a crucial part of the city cementing its position as a global green economy leader.

Life’s essentials: water, power and plants
In our first three episodes, we have explored some of the main aspects of the fundamentals of life in the built environment, from water and its management in the UK, to biodiversity and re-greening our cities, to energy sources.
Our fourth episode covers unmissable moments explored in each episode so far, from why we’ve got to where we are now, to what local authorities, professionals and even individuals can contribute to efforts to improve the world in which we live.
Empowering women in the built environment
Anke Rollenhagen, an experienced engineer and team lead for facade planning at Buro Happold in Berlin, highlights the importance of development opportunities and support. Leading a team of seven with dedication, she is also passionate about empowering younger women in the industry through her involvement in the Women’s Business Network, where she shares her experiences and offers support to colleagues.
Celebrating Independence Day in India
People from across our Bengaluru, Hyderabad and Mumbai offices came together to celebrate India’s Independence Day earlier this week. Buro Happold opened its first Indian office in 2008 and has since grown to nearly 250 employees in the region, offering a range of specialist consulting services across the building and urban development sectors.
Are bio-based materials suitable for mainstream construction?
Bio-based construction materials are crucial for decarbonising the construction industry due to their lower embodied carbon. However, their implementation faces challenges such as strict regulations, limited availability and widespread lack of knowledge. Joanna Hedley-Smith, Oliver Lerch and Oliver Stainton from our Urban C:lab group discussed these issues with external collaborators and industry experts.
