A more intelligent approach to university campus energy use

A more intelligent approach to university campus energy use

What if you were able to collate data from different building services to provide a more intelligent approach to usage?

People and Planet, who produce the University League table focused on sustainability, state that “a sustainability strategy or action plan is crucial for enabling sustained, strategic improvement in environmental performance, backed up by senior management and with adequate resources.” Yet it is only by measuring and analysing environmental impacts that universities can set targets to achieve.

By incorporating operational data with energy data, each building can be profiled, identifying operational and energy reduction opportunities. Measurement of all connected buildings can be used to promote good practice, store historical data for comparisons, highlight areas to focus and provide a positive competitive atmosphere for improvement between buildings and locations.

A good example of a simple benefit of combining real time occupancy data into the performance is room allocation. With this approach faculties have the potential for dynamic space allocation. Meaning institutions can avoid the heating and lighting of large lecture theatres occupied by a few students. Matching the size of the lecture space to actual attendees prevents energy wastage.

The AXON platform gathers big building data, to provide visualisations of actual operation including reporting on energy, consumption, lighting, environment and occupancy, for estate performance analytics at all levels. Being technology independent AXON can integrate disparate data streams from the technologies already installed within your campus estate. Enabling you to deliver better, smarter buildings today.
