MUFG AM: Japan Thematic Insight: Japanese Stocks Rise Despite Absence of Foreign Investor Buying

Between 2015 and 2022,  the Japanese market rose despite foreign investors being net sellers of Japanese stocks. Recently, a number of positive domestic factors have offset this selling pattern including, reduced local equity financing, unwinding of cross-shareholdings and increased buying from wealth accumulating investors. We believe this signifies a favourable supply/demand dynamic for Japanese Equities.
