My Entrepreneurial & Life Principles: Keys to Flourishing in Business and Life

Embarking on my entrepreneurial journey over 25 years ago, I've had a front-row seat to the rollercoaster ride that is business. Through the exhilarating highs and the challenging lows, I've stumbled upon some rock-solid principles that seem to weather any storm. These aren't your typical textbook rules; they're the nuggets of wisdom I've picked up along the way, often with a hint of trial and error. From dragging myself out of bed at ungodly hours to squeezing in quality time with my loved ones, each piece of advice carries a bit of my story. Join me as I share these gems that have shaped my way of doing business and kept me sane and, dare I say, slightly amused through the journey. They are not in any order of importance.

  1. Early Bird Advantage: Begin your day before the rush, gaining uninterrupted moments to think, plan, and prepare. This early start ensures you're armed and ready to tackle the day when others start to pour in.
  2. Strategic Preparedness: Equip yourself with meticulous planning, ensuring you're armed to conquer any challenge. This involves envisioning all possible outcomes, even the worst-case scenarios, so you're not caught off guard.
  3. Fuel Your Drive: Let your passion be the driving force, propelling your business forward relentlessly.
  4. Positivity Pays Off: Maintaining an optimistic outlook is crucial for overcoming hurdles.
  5. Empathy Equals Success: Forge strong connections by understanding the needs of your clients, colleagues, friends, and others on a deeper level.
  6. Continuous Learning Loop: Prioritize daily education, staying ahead in an ever-evolving market.
  7. Hire to Elevate: Build a team of experts who can execute, teach, and inspire.
  8. Proactive Vigilance: Keep your finger on the pulse, seizing opportunities and averting threats.
  9. Daily Laughter Quota: Infuse humor into your routine, alleviating stress and fostering creativity.
  10. Lead by Action: Demonstrate your commitment through hands-on leadership, earning respect.
  11. Actions Speak Louder: Implement what you preach, showcasing the authenticity of your words.
  12. Direct Feedback Loop: Cultivate a culture of candidness, driving constant improvement.
  13. Physical Agility: Maintain your physical well-being, as a healthy body complements a sharp mind.
  14. Cherished Bonds: Devote time to loved ones, as their support fuels your entrepreneurial journey.
  15. Generosity Unleashed: Give freely without expecting reciprocation, fostering goodwill and trust.
  16. Enduring Resilience: Embrace the truth that the entrepreneurial journey is often more arduous than it appears. To navigate this path, you must cultivate unyielding resilience, standing strong in the face of challenges and weathering every storm.
  17. Unified Strength: Build a team with diverse strengths and attributes. Collective efforts outshine individual endeavors, and complementary skills propel your venture to new heights.
  18. Universal Wisdom: Value insights from all, regardless of their role. Learn from everyone, treating the CEO and janitor alike. Kindness matters – don't underestimate its impact on your journey.
  19. Ethical Foundation: Operate with unwavering ethical values. Treat others as you'd wish to be treated, refraining from actions you'd dislike. When striking deals, ensure they align with your personal standards, only accepting agreements you're willing to uphold.

Your journey undoubtedly reflects the fusion of these principles into your entrepreneurial success. For me, the principles of relentless adaptability and customer-centricity have been the cornerstone. The business landscape evolves rapidly, and the ability to pivot while keeping your customers' needs at the heart of decisions has been a driving force.

All of your principles are worthy of further exploration in their own right Victor - this has been curated beautifully. All resonate with me - it's hard to pick just one. My biggest surprise I inadvertently stumbled upon in the last few years has been the power of an early start. Part of that was driven by our furry friends waking us up at 6am (cue much cursing at the start) but I've now come to truly value this early start & period of reflection before the day gets going. Thanks for sharing so eloquently!

There is one principle that is guaranteed to keep one in everlasting ignorance. That principle is contempt prior to investigation. ---Herbert Spencer, et al
