My Favourite Type of Event

My Favourite Type of Event

What’s my favourite type of event?

I often get asked the question, what is my favourite type of event? And actually, this is a really difficult question for me to answer.

As an events planner for over 20 years, I have organised many events of different formats and sizes, from small focus groups and networking events, right through to multiple session, multiple-day residential conferences and the more prestigious high profile luncheons, award ceremonies and black-tie dinners, in venues like the House of Lords, Gray’s Inn and East Wintergarden in Canary Wharf and hand on heart I can say, that there isn’t a single event that I haven’t enjoyed, even if it has been adrenalin that has carried me through!

I am passionate about event planning, the process it involves, and delivering a seamless and polished event as the end result irrespective of the type of event. It’s great to be so Versatile and to be involved in such a variety of events, which by the way I do on both a professional and voluntary level!

So, to answer the really difficult question, my favourites are corporate events, events which I am able to get absorbed into with the planning, that are a little bit more complex, or on a larger scale such as a residential conference, a one-day event with multiple sessions, or a large scale exhibition. Often these types of event are for clients that know what they would like to achieve, want to put on an event but just don’t know how to begin the process.

Prestigious events in stunning venues, such as the House of Lords also feature on the favourite list! These events have a wow factor, and having organised luncheons, awards ceremonies and black-tie dinners in venues such as these, I am always in awe when I step inside a prestigious venue like this and always make sure I take a moment to reflect on how privileged I am that my career has taken me to some amazing venues and stunning locations.

Blank canvas events and blank canvas venues are great events to get my teeth into and also something that I really enjoy. A few years ago, I was honoured with the opportunity to chair the Girlguiding Northamptonshire centenary celebrations, and what a great year we had. I mention this as I co-ordinated a team to deliver a couple of large scale events with activities for 1000 brownies from around the County. We had blank canvas venues, such as a Towcester Race Course, and Silverstone Race Circuit which provided blank canvases for us to design a programme with activities, creating lifetime memories for both girls and leaders. We had a mobile Caving system, we had giant space hoppers, we painted elephants and owls, we made armpit fudge, we got lively with the Zumba dance crew, we had giant inflatables and an ice-cream van to came to, and this is just a snippet of the fun-packed day! These type of events absorb me, get the adrenalin pumping, and give me a real sense of satisfaction and achievement when you can see all the participants enjoying themselves and the memories being made. So risk assessment aside this is another type of event that is a favourite.

Hopefully, this gives you an insight into my event favourites, I enjoy planning and managing different type of events for different reasons, and as I said at the beginning, for me as an events planner, picking a single favourite type of event is not something I am able to do!
