My learnings at SOIL
"Do not be embarrassed by your failures, learn from them and start again.” —Richard Branson
Failure is not bad always- I've come to see the value of failing. It wasn't something that came readily to me. I had a hard time accepting a challenge that wasn't going to work out. It was the most difficult lesson I'd ever learned, but it gave me self-acceptance and the opportunity to learn from my mistakes. I'd want to share how, after completing my first internship for three months, I almost wrecked it since I had to travel on excursions. I failed, but I learned from it and applied it to the other two.
Seva Bhav- Prior to SOIL, I enjoyed assisting others, but it was not channelized correctly. This organization has provided me with a platform to broaden my reach and empower as many individuals as possible. I'd like to highlight the "Social innovation program" as an example of where I was able to put my skills to good use. I was overjoyed to learn that the creatives I created during my stint with Udayan Care will be used by Indian youth to learn basic life skills. I was living by its goal and in the future, I take a vow to do so.
Be yourself and be authentic- I saw how crucial it was to present yourself as your true authentic self. I'm not flawless, but presenting myself as myself allowed me to express the individuality that I brought to the table. It came in the shape of my thoughts, insights, intuition, trepidation, and wisdom. I remember my mentor giving me the advice to make my name as a brand. people show some trust if your name is involved. Currently while creating the yearbook for SOIL when I am reading the messages from my peers I sense a feeling of happiness. Whatever I did was natural and had no intentions but it turned out so beautifully. So many messages are filled with gratitude.

Ask for help if you are stuck-I learned to ask for help when I needed it. I didn't wait for them to be handed to me "at the appropriate time." I requested internships and projects that were far beyond my capabilities. As a result, I gained the ability to handle anything that was thrown at me, as well as the ability to expand my study and explore newer possibilities. I still remember taking hours to create a single presentation but now with the right amount of resources it has become a cakewalk for me.
Be empathetic-Lastly, empathy- SOIL's most important value. A college that accesses students not only on IQ but also checks the EQ. Empathy is at the heart of SOIL's ideals, and it was a simple concept for me to grasp. I discovered that empathy entailed more than merely feeling sorry for someone and expressing sympathy. It meant putting oneself in the other's shoes and empathizing with their feelings. This skill set assisted me in understanding some of the candidate's perspectives during interviews and will aid me in managing employee grievances in the future while keeping strong employee relations with everybody.
When I reflect on the past year, my heart is overflowing with gratitude. The people I've met, the influence I've had, and the lessons I've learned have all left me teary-eyed and emotional.
Thank you very much, SOIL. I want to take these principles with me wherever I go and make an immediate difference.
