My Life at Linesight: Nick Degney, Senior Project Manager, Australia
For Nick, his journey at Linesight has been extremely rewarding, especially as he transitioned from a background in subcontracting to embrace the consultancy side of construction. He is a strong advocate for continuous improvement and resilience in the industry, while also highlighting the importance of balancing work with a close-knit family life.
Why Linesight?
I joined Linesight a little over two years ago, driven by my interest in the consultancy side of construction. Prior to that, I worked with electrical and telecommunications subcontractors on large-scale construction, residential, and government infrastructure projects across Australia. While my career had primarily focused on subcontracting, I wanted to gain experience on the client side to better understand it and drive change, particularly in the Data Centre sector.
What do you enjoy the most about your current role at Linesight?
What I value most is the opportunity to work closely with my team, especially in my project management role. I oversee various components, such as cost and scheduling, procurement, and other client services. Serving as the central hub for these functions fosters dynamic team interaction, making the experience extremely rewarding.
What has been your proudest moment at Linesight so far?
I take great pride in two key accomplishments. First, about a year and a half ago, I led a Movember campaign for Men’s Mental Health Month in Australia, raising $4,000 with my team from the Sydney office. It was an incredibly fulfilling experience for me, given my strong passion for mental health support, particularly within the construction industry. Second, early in my career, I independently delivered nearly 50 megawatts of capacity across an Australian portfolio of data centres. This achievement was a significant success and a proud milestone for me.

What motivates you every day?
For me, continual improvement is essential. In our industry, the moment you stop learning is the moment you fall behind. At Linesight, our global network—connecting with teams all over the world, across APAC and the GCC, Europe, and the Americas—embodies this commitment to progress. As a senior member of the team, fostering new ideas and contributions from across the business is what keeps me inspired and engaged.
Outside work, what makes you happy?
My two daughters, aged six and five, are my biggest source of inspiration. My wife and I come from large, tight-knit families, and this extends to my work, where my colleagues are like a second family. With my eldest daughter starting kindergarten this year, it’s been a special time. I enjoy how my work and home life blend effortlessly at this stage.
What advice would you give to someone aspiring to enter this industry?
It would be perseverance. Despite the challenges, it's crucial to remain focused and to value everyone’s input, from newcomers to experienced professionals. Some of the best insights can come from those new to the industry. Maintaining your goals and positioning yourself to achieve them, regardless of your role or division, is essential for success.
