Extreme weather events and climate hazards are experienced very differently by different people and communities, depending on a range of social, economic, political and cultural factors. Development models based on blended grey and green solutions hold promise. Understanding and deploying them prudently is the need of the hour. In this blog, Jaya Dhindaw Dhindaw, Executive Director, Sustainable Cities, WRI India and Ritesh Kumar, Director, Wetlands International South Asia share how the India Forum for Nature-based Solutions (NbS) is building evidence, developing common narratives and mainstreaming the adoption of NbS and hybrid solutions to achieving India’s climate goals.

Inaugural Annual Summit I 6 August 2024 I New Delhi

Join us for the inaugural summit of the India Forum for Nature-based Solutions. The Summit aims to align synergies, foster dialogue, share knowledge and learnings, and increase awareness on Nbs and their role in shaping resilient Indian cities. The day-long event will host panel discussions, hands-on workshops, exhibitions, awards, and more. The Summit will engage participants in discussions on decision-making tools and methods for choosing and evaluating benefits of NbS, methods to unlocking investment and financial opportunities, and developing actional strategies for cities to adopt NbS at scale. The event will also showcase the launch of the second call for proposals for the Forum Research Program, a monthly Masterclass series.

Masterclass Series Launch at the Annual Summit

The India Forum for Nature-based Solutions plans to host a series of masterclasses to enhance the discussion around leveraging NbS for #ClimateResilientCities. The inaugural class will be delivered by Prof. Myounggu Kang, Director, Urban Big Data and Artificial Intelligence Institute (UBAI) & Professor, University of Seoul.

Upcoming Report Launch at the Annual Summit by CEEW | Accelerating Investments for the Nature-based Solutions in the Global South: A Unified Framework for Mapping and Estimating Benefits

Despite wide recognition of the benefits provided by NbS, countries in the Global South find it especially difficult to scale finances for NbS to achieve climate change, biodiversity and desertification-related targets.

CEEW will launch its report, ‘Accelerating Investments for the Nature-based Solutions in the Global South: A Unified Framework for Mapping and Estimating Benefits’ at the Forum's Annual Summit on August 6th. The report introduces a 3-step framework to support stakeholders in highlighting the benefits and economic potential of NbS, towards accelerating much-needed investment.

Impacts and Adaptation Summit I 26 and 27 August 2024

The Nand & Jeet Khemka Foundation and the India Climate Collaborative are aiming to build multi-stakeholder collaboration on robust strategic frameworks and locally-led adaptation planning and implementation. Participants will share insights, experiences, and best practices, fostering a holistic understanding of the complex challenges posed by climate change in South Asia.
