The Need To Explain: Monday Wisdom:)

In a crowded market , being an entrepreneur can be really daunting, especially when one works as an outsourced Sales Associate . My start up, The Big Pitchr does exactly that. We work with exciting Start Ups and established businesses to generate revenues for them . Generating revenues for Start Ups is not really an easy task. A Sales Associate has the all the disadvantages of being in a regular job and none of the advantages of a job;( and revenue being highly measurable an element, it has huge amount of accountability. In spite of being from a Media back ground it took me two years to brand myself. A great friend and client helped me with the identity The Big Pitchr. Another great friend created the tagline.

After surviving for 2 years and having no time to go for events, finally I decided to attend Networking Meets and talk about my business. A typical conversation goes like this:

Me: Hi this is Arunima. Founder The Big Pitchr- We achieve your sales Targets for you

Attendee: Big Picture? Nicee...

Me: No no Big Pitchr. We make all pitches seem Big and finally after every win we celebrate with bigger pitchers of beer. I personally love beer and wanted the brand personality to be like me... bubbly, cool , friendly...

Attendee: Blank Stare...

Me: Good to connect .. bye.. etc etc

Move on to Attendee 2. Repeat conversation...

Sometimes I manage to evoke a hearty smile instead. Not all conversations are bleak. This made me think that how easy it is for one to forget the basics. I am a hard core seller and I am not selling myself properly. I have not created a pitch that talks about the 12 clients I have worked with or the fact that I have worked with quite a few HR Service Providers and not only Media clients and my services range from lead generation, to training, to Sales Strategy, the whole gamut of Sales related services.

This is one learning I wanted to pass on. Everyone is a seller and the creator of the brand is actually the best sales person for the brand. So whether its Social Media or at physical events go with the idea of selling yourself. Do not explain yourself rhetorically. Do not brag or undermine yourself. Have price points ready.. if someone asks you a figure , have something ready. I always try starting from the highest price point- if I start from the lowest and if I am talking to a potential client chances are that the figure would stay in his mind and he would offer me a lower price:) .

You want to discuss any such situations feel free to connect with The Big Pitchr - thats me - Cheers!!
