NEVHC Launches Voter Education Campaign

In case you missed it, California had its primaries on March 5th!  The primaries are critical during an election year since they determine who will be on the final ballot for the all-important November general election. NEVHC launched our civic engagement campaign to inform our patients and staff about the importance of voting.

NEVHC Preparing for March 5th Primaries

In collaboration with the California Primary Care Association and AltaMed Health Services, NEVHC received a grant to provide nonpartisan voter education to emphasize how voting impacts health. Before the March 5th primaries, NEVHC conducted a soft information launch for our patients, staff, and the wider community. In our journey to get out the vote, all 17 of our health centers and 9 NEVHC Women, Infants, and Children (WIC) sites displayed specialized posters outlining key dates for the primaries in both English and Spanish. Whether in a lobby or exam room, posters like the one in Figure 1 reminded our patients and staff about the importance of voting in the primaries.

NEVHC's Chief Medical Officer, Dr. Christine Park, spoke at AltaMed's press conference to highlight why voting is important for the populations we serve at community health centers.

On primary election day, NEVHC staff showed their pride in participating in the electoral process by holding up their “I voted” sticker.

Of course, NEVHC plans to coordinate special social media and in-clinic engagement as we get closer to the general elections on November 5th. March 5th Primary Results and Key General Election Dates

Although the results of the elections are not certified until April 12th, the Registrar-Recorder/County Clerk's office has unofficial results posted. As has been seen in the past, only 26.72% of eligible voters in LA County participated in the recent March 5th primary. Despite the low primary turnout, NEVHC will continue, along with our partners, to get the word out to vote for the upcoming general election on Tuesday, November 5th.  Below are some key dates to keep in mind.
