Nike's Metaverse Bid and Ronnie Fieg's Newest Title

Welcome back to FN Daily, where we break down the biggest stories happening in footwear and retail.

Nike today announced a new metaverse marketplace platform. We're also looking at Puma and Foot Locker expanding their partnership and Ronnie Fieg being named creative director of the New York Knicks.

Nike's Metaverse Marketplace

Nike today announced the launch of .Swoosh, a new metaverse marketplace platform meant to foster a “inclusive digital community” for athletes and Nike consumers.

The blockchain-powered platform will allow users to connect with other athletes and consumers, obtain virtual products and engage in immersive experiences. 

In this new space, which is currently in beta test mode, Nike members will be able to collect virtual footwear and apparel products to wear on the platform. In some cases, users will be able to access real products or events.

Kith Founder Ronnie Fieg Gets a New Title

Kith founder and CEO Ronnie Fieg has been named the first-ever creative director for the New York Knicks. 

Fieg is a Queens, NY native and lifelong Knicks fan, He will be tasked with “building a community around an international brand” in this new role, and will also develop an in-house line of products and oversee the creative around the team, according to a release.

"I think they saw the passion I have for the team and wanted to evolve what we’ve been doing with Kith into something more,” Fieg said in a statement.

Puma Expands Its Foot Locker Inc. Partnership

Puma and Foot Locker Inc. have expanded their partnership.

The athletic powerhouse announced its expanded partnership with the retail giant today, which Puma explained will be “underscored by a focus on basketball,” as well as “the creation of exclusive product collections that meet the demands of this growing next-generation market segment.”

What’s more, Puma said the two companies will roll out “hyper-relevant creator engagements and brand partnerships” that will resonate with a younger audience.
