NVIDIA and the battle for the future of Generative AI

Amidst all the buzz surrounding AI generative tools, in August 2022, Analytics India Magazine predicted that Nvidia would launch text-to-image models and platforms.

Nearly three years after introducing GauGAN, an AI tool that turns sketches into photorealistic landscapes, Nvidia has finally released its text-to-image diffusion model called eDiffi, competing with the likes of Meta’s ‘Make a Scene,’ Google’s ImagenOpenAI’s DALL.E 2Stability AI’s Stable DiffusionMidjourney, and others. What took Nvidia so long to release a text-to-image tool? The question remains shrouded in mystery for now, but better late than never.

The new kid on the block offers unprecedented text-to-image synthesis with instant style transfer and intuitive painting with word capabilities. Compared to the open-source text-to-image Stable Diffusion and DALL.E 2eDiffi consistently leads to improved synthesis quality.

But how did they do it?

Nvidia researchers* have used different expert denoisers for different noise intervals of the generative process. Unlike many text-to-image tools, eDiffi has used CLIP text, T5 text, and CLIP image encoders/embeddings, leading to improved synthesis capabilities.

Result: eDiffi can generate photorealistic images corresponding to any input text prompts. Besides text-to-image synthesis, the new diffusion model by Nvidia offers two interesting new features: ‘Paint-with-Words’ and ‘Style-guided image generation’. Go explore!

Turbulent Times for Twitter India

In a bitter turn of events, Twitter has laid off most of its employees in India after its new chief Elon Musk initiated a global restructuring operation. Reports suggest that nearly 180 out of 230 employees in India were let go.

“Unfortunately, there is no choice when the company is losing over $4 million per day,” said Musk, commenting on Twitter’s reduction in force. He said everyone was offered three months of severance pay, which is 50% more than legally required.
