One Nation One Constitution - Abrogation of Article 370

Today marks the 5th anniversary of abrogation of Article 370 by Government of India in Jammu & Kashmir. It was on this day in 2019, GOI revoked the special status granted to J&K under Article 370 of the Constitution. 

This visionary decision under the leadership of PM Shri Narendra Modi has not only returned peace and normalcy in the region but has also positively impacted the lives of more than 1.25 crore people living there. Here are 9 segments of positive growth seen in J&K in the last five years -

Tourism: The region has witnessed an unprecedented tourism boom, with 2.5 crore tourists visiting in the last two years. This surge is credited to improved security, effective marketing, and new tourism initiatives.

Education: Educational opportunities have surged, with premier institutions like IIM, IIT, and AIIMS established in Jammu.

Agri-preneurship: The Purple Revolution, particularly the lavender cultivation in Bhaderwah, has fostered a culture of Agri-preneurship, enhancing income security and inspiring other Himalayan states. 

Trade: The doubling of handloom and handicraft exports reflects a positive economic trajectory.

Made-in-Kashmir: The demand for Kashmir willow bats has surged, with the industry crossing Rs. 1300 crore. The first consignment of snow peas was sent to London from Pulwama, bringing the exotic Kashmir-grown vegetables onto the world map. This success has opened new doors for the prosperity of the people of Jammu and Kashmir.

Economic Development: Government initiatives like the Prime Minister's Development Package (PMDP) and the Industrial Development Scheme (IDS) have spurred economic growth.

Ease of Living: The exponential increase in road construction, tap water connections, and housing units has significantly improved living conditions.

Infrastructure: The world's tallest rail bridge over the Chenab River and the upcoming emergence of Kishtwar as a power hub highlight these infrastructural advancements.

Democratic Revival: The national flag now proudly flies on every government office in J&K, symbolizing renewed patriotic fervor. The region also recorded its highest voter turnout in 35 years during the General Elections 2024, with a 58.46% turnout, showcasing a robust democratic spirit.

It can be clearly seen that abrogation of Article 370 has brought security, dignity and opportunity for the women, youth, backward, tribal and marginalized communities in the region. In the coming times, it is certain to witness more development and golden days in J&K.
