An open talk about open-source code and software freedom.
Let’s suppose you've ever used some software like a browser or operating system and thought that you wished you could completely customize it. Or have you ever needed extra hands to complete the personal project you are working on? Or have you ever wanted to use applications you can entirely rely on? Or have you ever wanted to see what exactly is going on from the inside?
Well if that’s the case, #OpenSource is the best solution for all your problems.
Today, we’re celebrating Software Freedom Day at CEDCOSS. Connecting with the open-source applications and contributing towards them at the core have made us realize and understand how open source codes are bringing freedom to the software industry.
Back In 1998, the Open Source Initiative used the term "Open source" instead of "free software" that was been in the trend since the beginning. Understanding Open Source in simpler terms, ‘software created with open-source is usually collaboratively developed, and their source code is available on the web. Open-source software allows users to change, distribute, and learn from the software.’
Let's now discuss our involvement in open-source projects. People in the open-source community are diverse, open-minded, and dedicated to promoting the use of open-source. Several products and programs have been created as a result of these continuous improvements and involvements.
We asked our fellow CEDCOSSians about what's their view on how Open Source is contributing towards software freedom! Let's read their stance on freedom of software in the era of open-source:
''Open Source is like owning a house. You can paint its walls, place new doors, redesign the top floor and do whatever you want. Just as you get the freedom to rewrite the new set of codes, change the UI/UX of an app, and customize it on the go. '' - Shruti Tiwari

''In my opinion, open-source and openness to learning are inseparable. Modern problems require quick and ready-forward solutions - and this can only be achieved with an open-source environment.
At CedCoss, our hardworking coders and developers find solace in developing top-notch solutions like custom APIs, marketplace integration services, and chatbots to add value to the eCommerce ecosystem.'' - Mihir Gupta
------
''The open-source software has allowed our developers to offer flexible, transparent, and easily accessible solutions for businesses looking to solve a spectrum of problems.'' - Saman Javed
------
''Open source is a strategic necessity in a fast-changing digital world. Companies are using open-source software extensively, as it is increasingly shaping enterprise software architectures.'' - Tuba Bano
------
''To my thinking, extensive customizations are significant sources of creating our positive perspective about something. This is what Open-source majorly works upon. If you wish for a customized result, all you will need is an open-source solution for your problem.''
In today's open-source marketplace, we have a viable cohort of companies. From the open-source gene pool, iconic companies will emerge just as we are just starting to look. A company with a valuation of billions is demonstrative of the strength of the model. Open source is now no longer regarded as a fringe software approach. According to a survey, most of the world's leading companies intend to use open source software for their core systems. As the Fortune 5000 switches from closed to open-source software, we will see a whole new landscape of software companies emerge, which will be valued in the tens of billions.
In the coming decade, open-source companies must grow and mature, offering new products and developing their organizational structure. Nevertheless, the trend is undeniable, and we're honored to have been part of this journey.
