Urgency to Innovate & Structuring Change to Last
"We are innovating at the speed of technology development by necessity. It's a pace that may make some uncomfortable, but it's required to keep up with technology, to deliver for the warfighter at scale, and to continue outpacing our competitors," Deputy Secretary of Defense Kathleen Hicks said in her keynote address to the National Defense Industrial Association - (NDIA) Emerging Technologies for Defense Conference & Exhibition on Aug. 7
Hicks also emphasized the United States Department of Defense's commitment to accelerating innovation and change through flexible acquisition pathways and innovative contracting tools.
Now, nothing goes from zero-to-60 overnight. Change is a progression. One example is how we've embraced flexible acquisition pathways and innovative contracting tools to work better with commercial and non-traditional defense companies.
The Department is also enhancing collaboration with tech firms and private capital providers, establishing the Office of Strategic Capital to drive investment in critical technologies. Hicks underscored the importance of bipartisan support from Congress, advocating for increased trust and timely appropriations to sustain defense innovation efforts. Full Remarks>>
SBA Certifications Upgrade FAQs
Beginning Aug. 1, the U.S. Small Business Administration (SBA) will be upgrading the system it uses to process applications for socioeconomic contracting certifications, such as the 8(a) Program certification and HUBZone certification. The upgrade is expected to be completed in early September. During the upgrade period, the SBA will not be accepting new applications but will continue to process previously submitted applications. For more information, visit the SBA’s website. Visit certify.sba.gov for the most current guidance or contact SBA at certifications@sba.gov or (202) 205-6459.
