The parking lot is full.

Within a university setting, one can usually tell if a semester is running or not by the availability of parking spaces.

As I drove into work today (at The University of Arizona, Eller College) I noticed that the parking lots around our building were almost full – which means one thing – today is the first day of the spring 2015 semester!

Today over 40,000 UA students return from their long holiday break full of enthusiasm and eagerness to start not only a new year but a new semester.

For many of our MIS undergraduate students – today marks the beginning of their last semester of their academic career. This semester they will be busy finishing up their last credits needed for graduation and their degree, plus they will be looking for full-time employment within the IT/IS industry.

For most MIS Master’s students today marks the half-way point of their educational journey with us. This semester their hectic schedules will include a full-course load, completing their consulting projects and looking for summer internships.

As an administrator, I have truly enjoyed the “down-time” over the last few weeks. It’s been great to drive into the parking garage and have a lot of open spaces to choose from. But there’s absolutely nothing like the 1st day of a semester. The energy, enthusiasm and good “vibes” students bring when they come back from break is amazing and it helps me to remember what we are here for. Deliver an amazing educational experience for our students and provide a pipeline of talented individuals to our partner companies.
