Partnering to Increase Mobility in Cities – Detroit’s Project Kinetic

Access to reliable transportation is essential to communities to help ensure residents have access to jobs, health care, education, and goods and services. While the future of car ownership is changing, the need for functional mobility solutions is becoming more apparent as cities and communities continue to evolve.

At Maven, we believe cars can serve a greater number of purposes, and we recognize the need to actively work with cities to develop scalable mobility solutions to increase access to mobility options where people work and live. That’s why we’ve partnered with the City of Detroit to explore and co-create solutions with an eye toward the future.

By bringing together public, private, and non-project organizations, using an innovation-focused management process, a dedicated team set out to solve new mobility and transportation solutions for the city. Affectionately called Project Kinetic, six pilot projects were then born to explore these new solutions. Last week, I had a chance to speak alongside a few of our partners – #PlanetM, Detroit’s Office of Mobility Innovation, #DTEEnergy and Detroit’s Municipal Parking Department – at the Automotive News SHIFT conference in Detroit about how we have implemented our various programs.

Over the past few months, we’ve made concerted efforts to continue to push our communities forward with programs like this. Earlier this year, we signed the “Shared Mobility Principles” to reinforce our commitment to developing the future of cities. And just a few weeks ago, Maven partnered with Detroit’s Osborn Neighborhood Alliance and Matrix Human Services to launch one of these Project Kinetic pilot projects by bringing low-cost vehicle access to help support community services.

To hear more about how General Motors and Maven is collaborating to bring access to these types of mobility offerings to provide residents with better access to jobs and services throughout Detroit, check out my interview with @automotivenews #WeekendDrive.

Great initiative! Any possibility to coordinate with community groups to get Detroit residents to the polls in 2020?
