PNNL, NVIDIA Host LLM Day Amid Generative AI Surge

Even before generative artificial intelligence (AI) became an overnight sensation last year, researchers at Pacific Northwest National Laboratory were working to leverage the dazzling technology for transformative scientific research. The Lab’s newly formed Center for AI, in partnership with NVIDIA, recently hosted a joint “LLM Day.” During the day—part of a new series of collaborative events hosted by the Center for AI—NVIDIA’s AI experts engaged with PNNL scientists on opportunities to make generative AI a powerful tool for science. A digital 3D rendering of tunnel vision focused on futuristic technology. The tunnel is illuminated with vibrant blue and pink lights, with numerous small, glowing dots and lines representing data traveling through a circuit-like space. The perspective suggests rapid motion towards the tunnel's vanishing point, embodying a high-tech, cybernetic environment.

The international Trillion Parameter Consortium (TPC) brings together groups interested in collaborating around important areas including building, training, and using large-scale AI models as well as building and operating large-scale computing systems. The European Kick-Off of the International TPC was held from June 19–21 in Barcelona, Spain. PNNL's Neeraj Kumar led a breakout session and gave a talk. Po-Lun Ma also gave a talk during this workshop. Learn more about the workshop.
