"The Praemium Imperiale is a global arts prize awarded annually by the Japan Art Association. Since its inauguration in 1988, it has become a mark of the arts.
Six nomination committees, each chaired by an International Advisor, propose candidates in five fields: Painting, Sculpture, Architecture, Music and Theatre/Film."
Hanako, Princess Hitachi (正仁親王妃華子, Masahito Shinnōhi Hanako) (born Hanako Tsugaru (津軽華子, Tsugaru Hanako); 19 July 1940), is a member of the Japanese Imperial Family as the wife of Masahito, Prince Hitachi , who is the younger son of Emperor Shōwa and the only brother of Emperor Emeritus Akihito .
Honorary International Advisor David Rockefeller Jr. gave a speech during the celebration of the 34th Praemium Imperiale Awards at the White House. Mr. Rockefeller is the former chairman of Rockefeller & Company and continues to serve as a member of the Board of Directors. He is a fellow of the American Academy of Arts and Science, and a trustee of the Museum of Modern Art, New York. Mr. Rockefeller has long been involved with the Praemium Imperiale Awards, previously serving as International Advisor from 1991 to 2000.
